Production Research - Greta Van Fleet & The Rust Brothers

In this entry I will be analysing research I have done on the production of rock & roll band Greta Van Fleet’s debut hit record Anthem of a Peaceful Army. Taking inspiration from classic 70s bands, they have an unmissably similar sound to Led Zepplin, with reaching influence from wider classic rock, blues, and folk artists such as Fairport Convention.

Remix Production - Burden

During the module, we received stems from a live lounge session to use in practice for our remix production project, these were provided from The Jacaranda Basement Tapes and contained tracks by the local artist Lois Levin. There were a number of tracks in this session and we were tasked to take our pick and produce a remix, for this I went with the track Burden.

Remix Planning - Sapphire

For my production of the remix Sapphire by Mike Blue, I undertook it with the aim to bring the dazed and wispy neon tendrils of nightlife and the atmosphere of busy and detached moods to this track, which itself brings into proximity with it’s mellow jam of jazzy drums, smooth bass and expressive saxophone, along with lyrical context.

Roles and Analysis of Audio for Game Production

Within the production of audio for the accompaniment of a video game there are a number of roles which are to be undertaken to complete the project. Production Intro Reflection

During this trimester in the audio industries module I have created a mix of the recording project which I worked on in the recording techniques module parallel to this one. This involved operation of the Tascam mixing console to create the mix, with use of the external audio effects utilized to archive various audio processing effects such as NYK style compression and long-tail effect reverb and delay based similarly on the original track.

Loudspeakers

During our modules we have touched on loudspeakers and their role in audio production as both a piece of monitoring equipment and in live sound setups. Loudspeakers consist of the cabinet unit (enclosure) which is the main housing to the cone which is also known technically as the driver / transducer being the component to convert electrical energy containing the audio signal, into acoustic (kinetic) energy for listening.

Acoustics Intro

Covered in the topic of acoustics is it’s aspects within production, on how to control and monitor outputted transmission, how to evaluate the reception of a sound source and more generally how the effects of sound itself behave. Soundwaves will emanate from a source in a space where the air present allows for the outward pulsating crests and troughs of pressure, to distribute in a circular pattern similar to ripples from droplets in water.
