Remix Reflection
For the electronic music production module we were tasked to create a remix from recordings which we got during a live lounge session. I feel this project went very successfully, as we went through all the stages of recording the audio to the final remix mixdown and performance with professionalism and cohesion as a production team.
Starting in a live lounge set at a local music venue, The Jacaranda, we recorded Mike Blue and his backing band performing his new single Sapphire. We then took these stems and transformed them through the remix strategies we learnt in lectures from Paul and Cormac, creating a visceral and aesthetically related mix as a team which we then performed and recorded in another live lounge set session, that time under our own moniker of Sociodelic Live Lounge.
The mixing stage of the production took the track from it’s original live band sound and with our aims to bring it into a more pop and remix style, along with captivating sonics and dynamics which emphasised the local area with the mood of the original blended with tones from late night mirages, the final piece is something we’re both very satisfied with and excited to present to Mike Blue with the prospect of a release and future work together. Our performance went as we’d hoped, in similar fashion and was a workflow we were new to with it being our first performance together blending electronic and instrumental elements with live audio mixing and remixing utilising Logic Pros Live Loops.
Along with our remix of Mike Blue’s track, on the side I have also produced another remix which I am satisfied with, this was done with stems from another local artist Lois Levin, and features a different pace and aesthetic whilst still maintaining a similarity and consistency in sound which is both instrumental and visceral.
Overall I am very happy with the full production process which we have carried out, and the results of both remixes and the performance viewed retrospectively from recording to completion have given me a new confidence and understanding of production processes outside of the typical studio environment which is both beneficial from a networking, professional and creative point of view.
Going forward, I will take from this production all that I’ve learnt both positive and negative, and look to use it again in exciting future projects.
