Release Project Event - 23rd May Release Gig
For the release project coordinated between the band [1] and record label detailed in Entry 1, a launch event to promote the second release had been planned and run. Requiring event management responsibilities, liaison with the headline and support acts - as well as the venue team - was undertaken by the Department Heads label team.
During the run-up to the event, effective liaisoning required date setting and spot plugging - finding the right support acts which would best fit the growing scene around the label landed on two bands who fit the stylistic aspects of repertoire presented by the headline. These consisted of Band 3 being the first support scheduled - being interconnected with the scene of Band 1 and demonstrating commercial potential for development in their particularly current style to their sound of punk rock. Band 2 was also confirmed as the second support slot, also fitting stylistically with both previously mentioned - however differing in their specific style of rock music by being more aligned to alternative indie rock / shoegaze. This lineup encapsulated a focus on the label scene, with all bands being within its near vicinity through association - as Band 2 / 3 are in-talks with label publishing for release projects. Additionally, with the focused rock sound providing a continuity between sets, then being taken further into intrigue for audiences by their individualistic styles and genre influences.
Event planning consisted of confirming the date with all bands - 23rd May - after confirmation from the venue's promoter and stage manager. Promotion and ticketing for the event was undertaken by the label’s marketing team, with the 2-week runup being successfully utilised to promote the event and label activities. During this period, there was some cause for concern between the label team over ticket sales underperforming - however this on the night proved not to be an issue, with the venue space filling capacity from many on-the-door sales - exceeding our expectations on the night’s commercial performance.
Planning and preparation on the day consisted of soundchecks with the live sound engineer commencing at 5pm for each band - with all being 4-pieces this additional continuity in the lineups this arrangement worked smoothly through the live sets. 7:30pm doors opened to the 8pm first set by Band 3 - being well received by audiences and laying a strong foundation for the rest of the night. Band 2 then took to the stage at 9pm, with a very strong set of tracks which according to one audience member was possibly some of the best music they’d heard in that venue before. Followed then by the headliner, who performed a tight and exciting set for the promotion and announcement of their release that day. Although audience numbers dropped off as the night progressed, overall it was very successful and seemed very well received by those in attendance.
