Production Project Ideations
For a production project I aim to produce a number of tracks for an LP working with Googie and his Imaginary Band, as a part of a collective of artists - Sociodelic. In this role I will undertake the responsibilities of production including recording & mix engineering, as well the responsibilities of a producer and project management. This project has come around following the introduction to our collective of an artist and their album concept / demo material, working under their moniker Googie and his Imaginary Band. Together we plan to complete the songwriting / arrangement / recording stages, seeing the album into post-production mixing / overdubbing / mastering, through to label release publishing and promotion.
Working with another associated band - The Kites - alongside the AV basement tapes production, I’ve been approached to produce and engineer tracks for them. Having good rapport with the band, and with their satisfaction with the mixing I’d done for them already - this could shape up to be a good project arrangement in a professional capacity.
Going into the project with the requirements of recording studio access has however hit a snag. As the SAE studios aren’t currently operational, I’ve had to look for other possible options for this. In my initial project proposal, I’d accounted for a number of risk mitigations including the possibility of reduced studio access - however with a full 4-piece band there are a few requirements such as an isolation live room that is needed for proper tracking.
As I look to progress in my own vocational circumstances throughout this module, I have been approaching a potential production studio option - LL - that I had only recently been made aware of. Notably a disused studio space within the same building as one which I already work within on occasion - FE. Although FE Studio is well equipped, it orientates more around the production style of modern in-the-box projects - whereas the LL Studio with separated live / control room is better situated for band productions.
With this in mind, as I intend to work with The Kites band to produce tracks with them - I am first needing to get myself in a position where I can regularly access a studio. This will not only allow for the production of this project, but it will also better situate myself as an audio engineer with readily available, accessible and adequate studio space.
